ในช่วงปลายฤดูฝนเดือนตุลาคมของประเทศไทย ประชาชนมักถือโอกาสวันลอยกระทงเพื่อขอพรพระและขอพรวันคล้ายวันประสูติของพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวเพื่อเป็นสายใยแห่งความศรัทธา ขณะนี้ สีแดง ขาว น้ำเงิน บนธงชาติเปรียบเสมือนสัญลักษณ์แห่งชีวิต สีแดงคือเลือดที่เดือด สีขาวคือความเชื่ออันบริสุทธิ์ และสีน้ำเงินคือความชัดเจนหลังจากผ่านลมและฝน ที่คั่นหนังสือช้างสีพื้นซึ่งทำด้วยมือโดยช่างฝีมือชาวไทยถือได้ว่ามีน้ำหนักของระบบเชิงสัญลักษณ์นี้ กระบวนการจีบของที่คั่นหนังสือรูปช้างนั้นจงใจรักษาร่องรอยของการพับกระดาษซ้ำๆ ไว้ รอยยับแต่ละรอยเปรียบเสมือนอุปสรรคที่หลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ในชีวิต และช่างฝีมือเรียกรอยยับเหล่านี้ว่า “รอยยับของจิตวิญญาณ” เมื่อพลิกหน้าหนังสือ ช้างเผือกสามมิติจะยืนโดดเด่นจากรอยพับ เหมือนสัตว์ในตำนานบนธงชาติไทยที่กำลังหลุดออกจากระนาบสองมิติ สิ่งนี้เตือนเราว่าความยากลำบากจะไม่ทำลายชีวิตเรา แต่จะกลายเป็นกระดูกที่พยุงจิตวิญญาณของเราไว้ คุณสุระ ช่างฝีมือจากพิพิธภัณฑ์หัตถกรรมเชียงใหม่ เคยเล่าให้ฟังว่า “เวลาทำที่คั่นหนังสือ หากคุณตั้งใจหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ให้มีรอยยับ ร่างกายของช้างจะสูญเสียความรู้สึกสามมิติไป” ฉันทลักษณ์เหมือนกับสีหลักสามสีที่ผสมผสานกันอยู่บนธงชาติ ศรัทธา ความกล้าหาญ และภูมิปัญญาสามารถผสมผสานกันได้อย่างแท้จริงก็ต่อเมื่อยอมรับการปะทะกันและการเปลี่ยนแปลงในชีวิตเท่านั้น เมื่อเราทิ้งที่คั่นหนังสือรูปช้างไว้ระหว่างหน้าหนังสือ แท้จริงแล้วเรากำลังทำเครื่องหมายขนาดของการเติบโตของตัวเราเอง ความยากลำบากใดๆ ที่เราเอาชนะได้คือสิ่วที่ทำให้สัญลักษณ์ทางจิตวิญญาณมีชีวิตชีวาขึ้น เดือนตุลาคมนี้ ให้สเปกตรัมสีของธงชาติไทยและรอยพับที่คั่นหนังสือช้างกลายเป็นแสงที่ทะลุผ่านหมอกควัน ร่องรอยที่ครั้งหนึ่งเคยถูกมองว่าเป็นความเจ็บปวด ในที่สุดจะกลายเป็นเหรียญที่ช่วยพยุงน้ำหนักของชีวิตให้ก้าวผ่านกาลเวลา

At the end of the rainy season in October, Thailand, people often use the Loy Krathong Festival and the King’s Birthday as spiritual bonds. At this moment, the red, white and blue colors on the national flag are like a metaphor for life – red is boiling blood, white is pure faith, and blue is the clarity after going through wind and rain. The plain elephant bookmarks handmade by Thai craftsmen are carrying the weight of this symbolic system. The folding process of the elephant bookmark deliberately retains the traces of the paper being folded repeatedly. Each fold is like a setback that must be experienced in life, and is called “the folds of the soul” by the craftsmen. When the page is turned, the three-dimensional white elephant stands tall from the fold, just like the mythical beast on the Thai flag breaking free from the two-dimensional plane. This reminds us: difficulties will not crush life, but will become the skeleton that supports the spirit. Surat, a craftsman at the Chiang Mai Handicraft Museum, once shared: “When making bookmarks, if you deliberately avoid creases, the elephant body will lose its three-dimensional sense.” Just like the three primary colors interwoven on the national flag, only by accepting the collision and reshaping in life can faith, courage and wisdom truly blend. When we leave elephant bookmarks between the pages of a book, we are actually marking the scale of our own growth – every difficulty that is overcome is a carving knife that makes the spiritual totem more vivid. This October, let the color spectrum of the Thai flag and the folds of the elephant bookmark become the light that penetrates the haze. Those marks that were once regarded as painful will eventually become medals that support the weight of life in the precipitation of time.
